Is notrai an SOS-approved vendor?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The California Secretary of State has approved notrai.com as a notary public education vendor and assigned one number per approved course of study: #608712 for the 6-hour new-applicant course and #308732 for the 3-hour refresher. Each number is printed on the Proof of Completion issued for its own course. The approval covers these two courses of study and is not transferable to any other provider or product. Both are built to CCR § 20800 standards — state-aligned coursework, server-side time-on-task enforcement, identity verification per CCR § 20800.1(d), and a Proof of Completion certificate per CCR § 20800.5.

How long does the course take?

New notary applicants must complete a six-hour course of study approved by the Secretary of State (Govt. Code § 8201(a)(3)). The three-hour refresher satisfies the education requirement if you hold a current California notary public commission, have already completed an approved six-hour course, and apply before that commission expires; for everyone else, the requirement is six hours. Our course tracks active engagement — the timer pauses if your tab is backgrounded, and random comprehension checks freeze the clock if you miss two in a row. You can complete it in one sitting or in pieces over several days; progress is saved.

What does the notrai tutor know?

notrai is grounded in the California Notary Public Handbook (January 2026 edition), including the Government Code and Civil Code sections the handbook reprints. It is instructed to cite the handbook or statute section it is drawing from when it can. Every chat screen states that notrai provides general notarial information, not legal advice.

Will my data be sold or used to train AI models?

Accepted Answer

No. Our AI provider's contract prohibits training on customer API data. Your conversation history is stored under your account in our database, never in a shared pool. Our identity-verification provider is ISO 27001 / iBeta Level 1 certified — they hold the photo-ID image; we only store the encrypted ID number and the metadata CCR § 20800.6 requires us to keep on file. We never collect Social Security numbers — that field does not exist in our schema by design.

What's the refund policy?

Per CCR § 20800.9, our refund policy is disclosed before purchase. Within 7 days and before accessing course material beyond the introduction, you can request a full refund. After accessing material but before issuance of Proof of Completion, refunds are pro-rated. Once the certificate is issued, no refund — the regulatory deliverable has been produced. Do you cover the renewal course?

Yes. The 3-hour refresher is a separate $39 one-time purchase. It satisfies the education requirement if you hold a current California notary public commission, have already completed an approved six-hour course, and apply before that commission expires; if any of the three does not fit you, the requirement is the 6-hour course. The commission and six-hour conditions come from Govt. Code § 8201(b)(2), and the deadline from the California Notary Public Handbook. The refresher tracks the same time-on-task and engagement guarantees as the 6-hour new-applicant course, includes 1 month of tutor access, and ends in a 3-hour Proof of Completion certificate.
